This is an emotional documentary film showing the lives of the Samosely – people who still live in the Closed Zone created after the 1986 nuclear power plant disaster. Their abandoned villages have no running water or store, often no electricity, and they struggle with problems of old age. Despite three decades spent almost in solitude, they show an image of humanity forgotten in the developed world.
“There is no month here without death,” they repeat, as if reconciled to the fact that the moment is inexorably coming when there will be no one left. There are no more than 50 left today, which is why they are the Last People of Chernobyl.
